The Hopetown Deer

As many of you have heard, or seen on our Facebook page, last week at camp the Hopetown staff and campers rescued a little baby deer! The mother had abandoned him on the side of road. The staff and campers nursed the sweet little fawn back to health and spent a few days getting to watch it learn to walk, jump, play and follow everyone around camp. After researching the best place to take him, the staff found a Licensed Wildlife Rehabilitor in Murray, Kentucky close to camp and took the deer yesterday morning.

However, we are so very sad to tell you that the little fawn passed away yesterday afternoon. The rehabilitator said he had a genetic heart condition, which explains why the mother abandoned him and why he passed away so quickly after he seemd completely fine.

The past 5 days have been exciting for the staff and campers and certainly a learning experience. Thank you all for your interest & support as they nursed him back to health. We will certainly miss him at Hopetown, but thankful to know he is in Heaven with Molasses & Noel!
