A January 2014 Thank You!

"I had a decision to make.  I could either hide in the bathroom, or I could try to play volleyball...even though I knew I wasn't going to be good."

This courageous 7th grader shared these words with her Daystar group recently.  Her PE class was doing a section on volleyball and she knew that "bump, set, and spike" were way beyond her skill level.  She would feel and, most likely look awkward the entire period.  So, she felt like she had a big decision awaiting her.

As she talked, the other girls listened with rapt attention.  Every one of them had faced the same type of decision.  Every one of us does regularly.

Do I hide in the bathroom or do I try _____________?

After she shared her story, another girl immediately turned to her and said, "I have felt the same way.  And I think you're really brave."

These words...this conversation is exactly why we have groups...why we have a place called Daystar Counseling Ministries.  Our hope is to help kids know that they are not alone.  To give them opportunities to be brave as they share their struggles, to teach them to use their voices to encourage others and to surround them with adults and other kids who can be a voice of encouragement in their lives.  We are privileged daily to walk in this place.  And we are grateful for your partnership in it this new year.
