A December Thank You

Dear Friend,

"God came to us because he wanted to join us on the road, to listen to our story, and to help us realize that we are not walking in circles but moving towards the house of peace and joy.  This is the great mystery of Christmas that continues to give us comfort and consolation: we are not alone on our journey.  The God of love who gave us life sent his only Son to be with us at all times and in all places, so that we never have to feel lost in our struggles but always can trust that he walks with us." -Henri Nouwen

"God came to us because he wanted to join us on the road..."  Henri Nouwen's words echo the heart of what Daystar is all about.  This time of year reminds us that God coming to the 1300 families who are currently a part of Daystar Counseling Ministries.  Those families are here because they have a 7 year-old son struggling with anxiety, a 14 year-old daughter who has been bullied for way too long, a father facing cancer, a 17 year-old who is no longer sure that life is worth living...families who feel lost in their struggles for one isolating reason or another.

God came to those families on Christmas.  He still comes to them today.  He comes through the little yellow house that we call Daystar.  He comes through a 50 pound dog named Owen who tries to climb in boys' laps to remind them they're not alone.  He comes through high school girls' groups who sit with each other and say, "You don't deserve for anyone to treat you like that.  We want to be your friends.  We're with you."  He comes through children at camp who love and laugh beside each other on inner tubes and doing art projects.  He comes through our staff who feel collectively, graciously, humbly and honored to be called to join with God and these families on the road.  And through you.

We're honored for you to be a part of our celebration of Christ's birth.  We are grateful for your partnership and your willingness to stand with us in reminding children and families they're not alone.  It's a privilege to be on the road with you.
